British society is rich of many dialects and accents due to the variety of this country. Each dialect and accent represents specific social status. Received Pronunciation is regarded as the accent of educated upper-class, that, the aristocratic people talk with, while Cockney is the dialect that lower-class uses. There are some linguistic features that distinguish between these two accents in different aspects, i.e. grammatically, phonologically, and lexically. This variation of using accents and dialects affects literature and cinema, that, the writers and directors tries to show the variety in social class in the society via language use. The current review is built on a sociolinguistic and phonetic visions to dialects and accents. It focuses on the language use in two master pieces “The Lord of the Rings” and “Harry Potter” and aims at showing the differences in British culture and the effect of language in modelling characters and their role via their use of language.
