Approaches and Strategies for Teaching English in Non-Philological Domains

This study investigates the effectiveness of innovative pedagogical strategies for teaching English in non-philological domains, addressing a significant knowledge gap regarding language acquisition in specialized fields such as engineering and business. Utilizing a mixed-methods approach, we conducted a needs analysis followed by the implementation of task-based language teaching (TBLT) and content and language-integrated learning (CLIL) in a cohort of students across various disciplines. Our findings indicate that these methods significantly enhance students' language proficiency and their ability to apply English in professional contexts. The results suggest that integrating authentic materials and technology further supports learning outcomes. This research has important implications for curriculum design, advocating for tailored English language instruction that meets the specific needs of students in non-philological fields, ultimately preparing them for effective communication in their respective industries.
