Classical Traditions in European and Eastern Modern Literature: Image, Motif, Plot (Based on the Works of W. Faulkner, A. Camus, and Kh. Dostmuhammad)

The article offers a comparative analysis of the forms in which classical antiquity is revived in twentieth-century European and Eastern prose at the levels of image, motif and plot. Its central argument is that classical heritage is not repeated in modern literature but changes its function, and that the direction of this change depends on whether the tradition arrived by direct inheritance or by mediated transmission.
